Towns and Villages:
1. Khiranseth: The first established community in the world of Khir Khira, this is now a massive city, still continuing to grow. It is the capital of all Khir Khira, and the towering castle sits in the heart of the city, overlooking all. It is currently occupied by King Falyar Tar`en and his wife, Celestai Tar`en. Just about any trade, legal and illegal can be found somewhere within the walls of the city. Since the end of the war against Gandoran, referred to as the Dark War, the Khiranseth Airship Port, largest in Khir Khira, has grown and thrived, receiving vast numbers of private orders to charter or purchase ships for personal, or business use.
2. Khiran Brook: The town of Khiran Brook, the second established settlement, while still referred to as a town, is actually a growing city. It's staple trade still being farm products, it is governed by the nobility, but still falls under rule by Khiranseth, like most Khir Khiran towns. There is a smaller airship port in Khiran Brook, and an outpost outside of town, equipped with a garrison of soldiers, left over from the Dark War. This town was once taken by Gandoran's forces, around 487, just before the siege at Khiranseth. They were pushed back a few months later.
3. Khiranseth Magi Academy: The Magi Academy, established in 329, after the outbreak of children born with fully developed magical powers, seeks to train new sorcerers in this realm. It appears as a single tower from the outside, but is actually massive on the inside, extending into several dimensions. The Academy is run and instructed by the Circle of Spellcasters. It also occasionally sells magic items and supplies to merchants in Khiranseth and Khiran Brook.
4. Ashkima: First and only recognized town established in the Northern Khir Khiran Desert. The people who live here have skin of a dark gold tan, and speak in their own language, as well as Common tongue. Their usual trade is in baskets, blankets, and fine clothing, but they have been known to produce and sell fine weaponry.
5. Port Da`nu: Set on the shore of the Southern Khir Khiran Sea, this is a thriving fishing community. It has the largest sea port in Khir Khira, but also has Airship docking facilities. The primary trade here is boats, and sea food. While a garrison of soldiers, and fleet of warships was kept here, they rarely saw any action.
6. Nirbuik: This is a military outpost, used in the war to keep Gandoran's forces from crossing the Khiran River. Since the end of the war, it remains a military keep, but will take in travelers. It continues to patrol the nearby area for orcs and goblins.
7. Tal'Dikahr: Another military outpost, its purpose was to scout, sentry, and defend the northern road from Gandoran's forces. Like Nirbuik, it now takes in travelers, and patrols for remaining orcs and goblins.
8. Natrai: The halfway point between Port Du'nai, and Tal'Dikahr, this is a recently established village where many retired soldiers from the outpost came to settle. They are self sufficient, and farm the land.
9. Port Du'nai: The northernmost port town in Khir Khira, it is much smaller than its southern sister town. While it has no airship port as of yet, the foundations of one are being built to stimulate trade.
10. Havrati: This town serves as a midpoint to Ashkima; a place to stock up on supplies before entering the desert. Prices are generally quite high, but business good anyhow. A garrison of soldiers is posted here to defend against raiders from the desert.
11. Khal'dun: Another newer village, it is a small farming community, peopled by many ex-soldiers from Nirbuik.
12. Tu'lai: A small independent town, ruled by its own mayor. It is free of Khir Khiran Law, but most laws and penalties for crimes are similar. Their trade is mostly in livestock, and farm products.
13. Adenar: The first town built on the edges of the forest of Dark Illusions, the people here are generally mistrusting of anyone. Many a careless villager has ventured into the forest, never to return again. Even more often.. a hapless soul is kidnapped by something evil from the forest. This town was under orc/goblin control until the end of the war, and people are still treated with great mistrust.
14. Illubai: This town was first settled by a group of travelers who survived the Forest of Dark Illusions. It is extremely isolated, and doesn't fall under general Khir Khiran law. The populace is extremely superstitious, and turn to archaic justice such as stoning and burning. They have a strong fear of magic, and offenders, or people who are suspected, are usually burned at the stake as a witch, or warlock.
15. Pirate's Haven: Accessible only by boat or by airship, this town is a den of iniquity; a hideout for thieves and pirates. The infamous air pirate, Torr, once held rule over this settlement. Nearly all trade that comes from here is illegal. Here can be found cheap alcohol, drugs, and easy women. It isn't uncommon for murders to take place right in broad daylight, and in plain sight; there are no laws here.
-Throughout Khir Khira, ruins of civilizations lost, are found.. and each tells its own tale of woe, or demise.
Known Ruins:
1. Ruins near Havrati: This was once the village of Dram'buuk, which was destroyed in a raid by Gandoran's Army.
2. Ruins near Natrai: Another village completely destroyed during the war, but done by the Imperial Air Armada, under orders from the former King. It was once called Dan'eir.
3. Ruins near Adenar: This was once a thriving town until it was destroyed by the former king's Armada as they couldn't pay their taxes, and to set an example for others. It was called Tatrami.
4. Ruins in Forest of Dark Illusions: Ancient ruins deep within the Forest.. Few have seen them, and nobody knows their origin. Some people believe that they were placed there by a race more ancient than the elves who once roamed Khir Khira. Others believe they were set there by supernatural forces of the forest itself. Yet others believe that the ruins serve as a gateway for these forces.. to ferry them to this world from their plane of origin.
5. Ruins near Lake Norn: These ruins were once an elven city, long since vacated. It has long since had all valuables carried off by looters.
6. Ruins west of Illubai: This was a mining settlement begun by people from Illubai. It remained for many years, and began to thrive, until the people mysteriously vanished.. leaving valuables within the buildings untouched. It is said that this town is haunted, and all who enter are cursed. Any who remove items are damned to the same fate as the villagers.
Landmarks:
1. Khirabar Mountains: These mountains are the highest peaks in all Khir Khira. They back the city of Khiranseth, and within them, it is rumored that dwarves live, having long since fled the sorcerers of the humans. It is also said in myth, that atop the highest peak in the mountain range, the Ethereal Rose can be found.. a rare crystalline rose, that can only be plucked at the strike of midnight. But tis only superstition..
2. Khiran River: This river flows through most of Khir Khira. It empties into the Southern Khir Khiran Sea.
3. Forest of Dark Illusions: A dark and foreboding place, many a traveler has entered, but few have ever left. Who knows what dark forces await the unwary within its depths...
4. Isle of Lost Legends: This isle is rumored to house the refugees of the first war for Khir Khira, at the time of the arrival: The elves, the dwarves, the orcs, and goblins. Few people believe this tale, although it is sometimes said in myth that a dragon made of gold flew up from the isle, into a mysterious cloud, hanging overhead. But dragons in Khir Khira.. nahhh...
5. West Khir Khiran Mountains: These mountains lie to the west of Khiranseth.
They are also a fairly large mountain range, and are spoken of often, these
days, as a new mining opportunity. They have yet to be exploited.
